Severe Weather Warning?? It takes more than a severe weather warning to stop a 1st Class Rider. Pictured here is Darren who had his Mod 2 bike test in Llandrindod Wells this afternoon! Whilst much of the country ground to a halt due to blizzard conditions Darren took the swirling snow in his stride. After a very challenging ride up over the Brecon Beacons through heavy rain, high winds, sleet and snow, to reach Llandrindo he calmly (but coldly) passed his test with just a couple of minor rider faults. A big, well earned, Well Done to him. Why don’t you, just like Darren, become a 1st Class Rider?

A Date for Your Diary. The Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club are once again holding the Cardiff Motorcycle Show at Whitchurch High School. Sunday the 13th of May. We’ll have a stand at the show. (We may even have a sit at the show). So come along and say hello. We can give advice on Basic Training right up to an Accredited Advanced Level under the RoSPA Scheme. Also our stand will be hosting the Bikesafe Bike so you can get more information on that too. This is a great show with some great classic bikes and is well worth a visit. Don’t Miss It. See you there…. bring sweets….

Stepping Up, Stepping Out. Richard and Mike, seen here taking a break on their Direct Access Step Up day, to move up from a 125 to the 600cc bikes. Out enjoying the Sunshine. Both did their CBT with other companies but chose us for the remaining training to gain their full bike licences. With Module 1 tests booked for April, both looking forward to getting it done. Well done to you both for a great day, enjoying the ‘sites’ in Nantgarw yesterday. Also, congratulations to Paul who passed his Mod 1 test on Monday but was so excited he went home before I could get his picture taken. (He was off to a bike shop I think!!)

Time to go Shopping. No more looking at brochures, its time to start shopping for a new bike! Congratulations to Garry who passed his Module 2 Bike Test in Newport today. Well done to him for a great ride with just 1 minor rider fault. He’ll be trading his 125 for a 600. He’s looking at a Honda Hornet or something similar. Enjoy it Garry. Nice one.

Our New Training Fleet? Unfortunately not! 1st Class Rider Training played host to a Cardiff Advanced Rider Group (RoSPA) for a training day today. The training was for potential Approved Tutors within the group. The tutors have all proved themselves worthy of a RoSPA Gold or Silver Grade and will act as tutors for new associates joining the group. The day started with a written exam before a First Aid presentation by former Paramedic and Marine Medic, Steve who is a member of the Swansea Group. Then some slow control exercises proving that the tutors are able to handle their bikes with skill and expert balance. Then it was out on the road for an afternoon of on road training and tutoring, paying a visit to Abergavenny and the Brecon Beacons. A good day was had by all. If you are interested in joining the RoSPA Group or in taking the Advanced Test then please give us a call.

Back to Biking Course. Paul instructs Chris on his Back to Biking Course today. Chris last rode 15years ago, but under Paul’s guidance quickly regained his skills and took to the open road, visiting Norms Bikers Cafe in the Vale of Glamorgan. Chris is hoping to hire a bike on a forthcoming trip to America and feels well equipped to do so after clocking up a few miles with us. Have a great trip. Nice one.

CBT yesterday. Paul guides our students, Jamie, Kevin, Mike & Curtis through the first stages of their on site training for their CBT yesterday. This sunny Saturday saw them all successfully complete their training after a road ride, taking a break at McDonald’s in Pontprennau during the on road session. Well done to them.

A Cracking word of Warning. If you want to avoid a ‘Close Shave’. When it comes to passing your practical bike tests you only have a certain period of time to complete all the elements of your training and tests. It all hinges on the term of your theory test. The theory test is valid for 2 years and both of your practical tests must be taken and passed within that time. If you do not take your tests before the end of the 2 years then you must complete the theory test again and if you have completed the Module 1 test (but not the module 2 test), then you must start from scratch again and you will have to re-take your Module 1 test again. Also, if your CBT Certificate expires then that will have to be renewed and retaken. as well. So don’t delay. Check the date on your theory test pass certificate and get your tests done before it runs out. Get your skates on……
