Motorcycle Training news, from 1st Class Rider Training – Cardiff.

Sunshine in Merrhyr Today. Taking a break in the Brecon Beacons during their training today. Anthony who was enjoying his first full day on our 600 (officially that is…. He’s got an ER6 at home). And on the right is Nicky who went on to pass his Mod 2 bike test in Merthyr this afternoon, with just 2 minor faults. A great result for him. Anthony is now looking forward to arranging his Mod 1 test with us, after doing his Cbt elsewhere. Nicky is now on eBay buying a 600 cc Honda. Well done to them for a great day.

Scooters Rule The scooters were out in force on a Cbt yesterday. Pictured here is Lucy and Ryan on our Piaggio Scooters and Tim, getting to grips with the geared 125. A wet start soon gave way to sunshine for a great day for them all. Ryan has a scooter of his own already, Lucy is now in the market for one and Tim is considering doing the Direct Access course in the future. Piaggio Free…. Too right we are….

The Highway Code says…. In order to make yourself more conspicuous “you could wear a light or brightly coloured helmet”. Take your pick! At 1st Class we believe that a brightly coloured helmet is more visible on the road than many of the Hi Viz jackets currently in use. In a line of traffic it is the riders head, being the highest point, that would become visible first. Particularly important if your bike has a fairing or screen fitted or the rider is obscured by a top box or rucksack for example, as these features can obscure your hi viz jacket. So the choice of helmet colour can be your best and most visible asset. If you want to get ahead… Get a hat… And a “light or brightly coloured” one at that.

Ural Right… Sion on the 600 on his Cbt on Saturday. This is his third Cbt with 1st Class, and he’s considering doing his Direct Access this time around… At last! Also pictured is Chris who is doing the Cbt to ride his newly purchased Ural Sidecar Combination. His Ural outfit is fitted up with Military kit which includes a Machine Gun Turret! We could all use one of those! The Cbt will allow you to ride a sidecar combination if it doesn’t exceed 0.16kw/kg. with L plates and can’t carry passengers….. And no machine gun…. A good day for them both.

Time for a smile. Gareth allows himself a wry smile after passing his Mod 2 test in Swansea today. With just a couple of rider faults he kept his nerves in check and had a good ride. Well done to him, and home down the M4. Nice one.

Beating the Changes. Congratulations to Rory who passed his Module 2 bike test on his 125, in Swansea today. He now has a full but restricted bike licence and can ride any bike up to 33bhp. After the changes coming into force in January this test/licence option won’t be available to riders of his age. He’s on the road and ripping up his L plates. If you want to do the same then give us a call.

Two New Bikers got the Bug. Matt & Dan enjoying a respite between the rainy days to do their Cbt on Sunday. It was so dry I had to use the hose pipe for the Emergency Stops in the wet! And then the storm clouds gathered! A good day for them. Matt is going to get a 125 on the road and Dan will be back in for the next stage of his training soon. Well done to them both.

Little Trains & Big Trains. The ride out to Erwood Station found the air filled with smoke, steam and nostalgia. Marking the fact that the last train puffed it’s way through Erwood Station 50years ago today. The Old Station is now a craft centre & tea rooms and is well worth a visit.

Taking Tea in Llandrindod Paul & Dan (brothers-in-law), taking time out in their training day at Llandrindod Wells yesterday. In the midst of The Victorian Festival the town took us back in time as the residents took to the streets resplendent in their period Victorian dress. Paul passed his Mod 2 bike test with ease (dodging the Penny Farthing parade). Passing at his first attempt with just 3 minor faults. Dan is yet to arrange his test so I’ll keep you posted.
