Route Dangereuse! Are you coming with us. We are planning two tours this year. Across the Channel to the Ardennes Forest region, France & Belgium, and once again the Scottish 8 Tour, (touring the Scottish Highlands in a great big figure of 8). We will be doing the Ardennes trip later in the year, (once leaving the EU has confirmed what – if any, extra travel documentation may be required) so we will be publishing dates for our Scottish 8 Tour shortly. Come and join us. Two great trips. 1st Class.

Stepping up and shivering all day! A very cold and crisp start on their Step Up Day today for Collette and K. (K found it too cold and decided to give it a miss) Collette is pictured here, in what looks like a tropical Newport Test Centre! Practising the exercises in preparation for the Mod 1 test to come. It’s the only way to travel, whatever the weather!

Merry Christmas Connor! Connor ‘enjoys’ a cold and frosty start on his cbt today, which was a surprise Christmas present. He’s looking to start commuting before deciding what to do, but before that, it’s off to McDonald’s for a Cup of Magic Bean Drink. 1st Class!

Let’s talk about Tyres. Your tyres are your only contact with the road. And if you look after them… they will remain your only contact with the road!! So here is some safety advice for you to look after yours. Cold tyres don’t grip as well as warm tyres. They take a couple of miles to warm up and start giving you their maximum grip. (in ‘the job’ we used to do a Five Mile Warm Up). In warm weather when your tyres have warmed up, the heat is retained. But in the winter, when you stop, that heat is quickly lost. So take care, with no harsh acceleration or heavy braking. Don’t make your tyres work too hard! A short commute in this cold weather could mean that your tyres never have the chance to warm up and give you their full potential. Check your tyre pressures regularly and keep an eye on your legal tread depth. Remember it’s less than a car and a bike minimum is only 1mm. That’s not much, particularly when the road is wet or icy. Take care out there.

Miles apart, but not far. Well done to Mark for passing his Mod 2 bike test at his first attempt today. A great result. Big thanks to Tony from ‘Motorcycle Training People’ for helping us out today. But commiserations to A who was having his test in Bridgend today but turned right in a roundabout from the left hand lane. Unfortunately that cost him his test. But a round of applause to him as he calmly handled a few ice skiddy moments during the day!! We’ll get it next time.
